CBT is the first step to riding a motorcycle or moped on the road and was first introduced in January 1990 with the aim of reducing accidents for those joining the public highway on 2 wheels.
CBT is designed to be a one day training course
(not a test) and is delivered in modular training. The course is mde up of 5 elements including ,Introduction and eyesight check,Practical onsite training, Practical onsite riding, Practical on road training, Practical onroad riding.(min 2 hrs by law).
Youll move from 1 element to the next when you have reached the required standard for each element ie, learnt the theory , or show the practical skills to safe basic level.
When you have reached the required standard you will be issued with a DL196
(certificate of completion) which validates your provisional entitlement on your driving licence.Your DL196 certificate allows you to ride a moped or motorcycle up to 125cc on the road, unsupervised, you must; display L plates , not ride with a pillion, not
ride on motorways.
If the theory and practical tests are not taken successfully within two years the CBT would have to be re-taken.
If the required standard cannot be reached it may be necessary to return for further training. At Sharper Rider
Training there would be no extra charge for further training until the standard for CBT was reached.
The maximum ratio is 2 trainees to 1 instructor to ensure that all trainees get equal time and attention required for a good foundation to motorcycling.
The fee for CBT is £150. This includes bike hire,3rd party insurance and the use of helmet and gloves if required.
